This morning was full of feelings of good will and generosity toward our fellow men. But, this afternoon we broke out the frosting and the gum drops in a no-frosting-barred gingerbread house competition. While Christmas dinner was a roasting, we held a competition to see who would win the coveted Gingerbread Master award, complete with Ginger Brew prize.
First, the experts (kids) did their decorating. They were much more interested in eating than competing. Plus, they didn't want to show us adults up too bad.

Excellent work architect Adelaide and surveyor Steven.
Eleanor getting an assist from Dad.
Once the kids had shown us what to do, the adults took the table. The competition continued until the gum drops were depleted and the gummy bears gone. At first, we put Eleanor in charge of the judging. But, she declared everyone a winner. Too nice. So, we went and pried poor Adelaide away from her book and made her the sole judge in charge of awarding the ginger brew. She wanted to pick Matt's Viking long boat, but we encouraged her to pick a non-parent since we were supplying the prize and all. So, she went with Aunt's Tehri's outhouse. She may or may not have picked the closest house that didn't involve gruesome gummy bear death so she could get back to that book. Whatever her reasoning, a champion was declared and Tehri's got some serious gloating rights.
The finished masterpieces
Dave claims this was an earthquake and
not, in fact, a structural failure due to him being the
only one to use all frosting and turn his nose up at the glue gun.
Tehri's out house. Go little bear, go!
Melinda's castle with marshmallow turrets.
Phil's pagoda roof.
Matt's Viking long boat, off to pillage
his wife's castle and steal the gum drops.
Simple and sweet from Mikki
Roak's horrific plane crash complete with
dismembered gummy bear and red frosting fire.
WINNER!
And now, we feast!
