Guangzhou

We arrived in Guangzhou yesterday. It's a huge city, the second largest in China. And, it's tropical - hot and humid! Quite the difference from Zhengzhou.

It was a long travel day. Our original morning flight was cancelled, and our entire group was rebooked on an evening flight. We arrived at the airport around lunch time, 13 families and 20 cranky, nap-deprived kids. We truly felt bad for everyone else unfortunate enough to be on our flight.

It was a screamer! No doubt about it. Kids were melting down all over the place. But, our stalwart little travelers, though tired and a little fussy, didn't contribute to the ear-splitting chaos. Thanks kiddos!

The night before we left, there was a little rain storm in Zhengzhou. On our way to the airport, we found one of the roads was flooded. After a quick conference in Chinese between our guides and the driver, they decided to ford the water.

Fortunately, we were sitting up front and Matt had the presence of mind to yell for them to stop. All our luggage was under the bus and would have been soaked. So, Matt's a hero!

We flipped a crazy U-turn and went another route. Thought the picture of our almost aquatic adventure was worth posting.

Glad we didn't join the stalled cars out there.

An hour past bed time and still
hanging in there waiting for the
bus to take us to the hotel. Go team!

We look forward to exploring Guangzhou over the next week and hopefully getting to check out some of the wholesale markets the city is famous for!
