Buying Wholesale!

We missed the visiting the Pearl Market and getting deals on wholesale pearls earlier this week, with Matt down for the count and asleep for nearly 30 hours straight. Not that we really wanted pearls. Even at wholesale prices, they are pricey.

Fortunately, while not totally recovered, Matt was feeling a bit better this morning. Because, there was no way we were going to miss today's trip to the Gift Market. The Gift Market was formerly the toy wholesale area. But, over the years it morphed into an all-purpose market for giftables for both kids and adults.

It was a HUGE many storied building with hundreds and hundreds of stalls, tons of people, and no air conditioning. Our local guides helped get us started by pointing out the stands where children's dresses were just $4-5 each and ceramic teapots were 70% less than what we'd been seeing in tourist shops.

Basically, it was bargain heaven. From traditional clothing to home decor, toys to tea pots - there was something for everyone. It's a good thing our suitcases have a weight limit or Melinda might have decided to redecorate the house with all the goodies that were available.

Teaching the kids important life skills
like haggling and bargain hunting.

When Steven saw this big display of waving
cats, he started waving back. Sweet boy.

Taxi cab riding. Don't be fooled by Melinda's grin...
the no car seat thing totally freaks her out.

The girls couldn't wait to put
on their "princess" dresses.

Tomorrow we go to the US Consulate to finalize Steven's paperwork and get his immigrant visa. With this visa, as soon as his little toes touch US soil, he's a citizen. We're told, after all the hassle and hoopla, this appointment is actually very quick - in and out. We're really in the home stretch now!
