This past Tuesday BYU's Ballet Theatre Troupe came to San Diego. Adelaide has been loving her weekly ballet class, and we bought tickets to the show as a surprise for her.
The performance included excerpts from five fairy tale ballets. The kids were encouraged to come dressed as ballerina or princesses and the dancers went out of their way to interact with all the adoring little girls.
Eleanor and Matt stayed home for this one. Sitting still in a dark theater is not a two-year old's forte. But, they stayed up late, made guacamole and watched their own "fairy tale excerpts" from our Disney DVD collection.

During intermission, the kids were all invited on stage to dance. Adelaide absolutely beamed when one of the Swan Lake's swans took her hands and asked her to dance.
She enjoyed every single moment of the show. Okay, she was a little worried during Swam Lake. Adelaide wanted to know why the princess only came out at night. She asked several times if the swans would "do their bed time" if she read them some "bed time stories."
But, she was enchanted by the rest of the numbers, especially the fairies that brought Cinderella's dress. She was so tired at the end of the show that she was fighting to keep her eyes open. But, she begged to stay until the very last dancer had taken a bow.
The performers welcomed the kids as they
came in. Adelaide wanted her picture taken with
Sleeping Beauty so she could show Eleanor
(since it's E's favorite princess).
Many of the ballerinas were passing out
tootsie roll pops in the lobby. Genius way
to keep a crowd of little girls quiet :).
Waiting for ballet to begin and loving
our Mommy/Daughter date.
This is the best picture a mom in the aisles could
get. Adelaide's head is behind the skirt of the
ballerina in the middle. She's smiling behind all those tutus.
This little ballerina is all tuckered out.
