The Leprechaun Trap

Most of our family's attention has been on Jefferson this week. But, we wanted to share a quick post about the kids' St. Patrick's Day adventures.

While Matt stayed at the hospital overnight with Jefferson, Melinda stayed home with the other three. This year, the girls had BIG plans to catch a leprechaun. Our girls don't believe in Santa, or the Easter Bunny... or most holiday creatures. But, leprechauns and fairies? The REAL deal.

Behold! Their leprechaun trap! The leprechaun walks up the stairs to read an invite message on the outside of the box. And, ho, what's this! Inside is a shiny glint of gold (one of their hair clips has a golden shine). But, when the leprechaun climbs in to get it.... HA! No ladder. Pretty ingenious.

The girls just knew, the just KNEW they were going to catch a leprechaun. So, Melinda made sure not to disappoint (or at least she tried). A note outside the kids' bedroom doors asked for help and a gold coin trail led to the trap. One of the toy leprechauns was TRAPPED! Oh dear, the leprechauns will give you their Lucky Charms if you get their buddy out.

The trap is sprung!

 Hostage negotiations...

Pretty nice, right? WRONG! Adelaide was DEVASTATED that the trap hadn't caught a real leprechaun. So bummed. She hung her head and refused to talk about it. Eventually, she posed for this picture expressing her sadness.

This is NOT a real leprechaun.

Eleanor was a little bummed, but mostly excited about sugary cereal. And Steven, he couldn't believe we all weren't more excited about all the gold coins! He collected them all and declared himself rich, rich, rich. Then, he saw the train... could his morning get better? All he needed was his brother back and life would be perfect.

We cheered Adelaide up with some cereal and green milk (the "fake" leprechauns set that up too).

Breakfast Bounty

Adelaide was still pretty mopey when she was dropped of for school. Leprechauns weren't real and the world was a terrible place. But then... then, she got into her class. It was a mess! Papers and books everywhere. And, notes on the board from the leprechaun... saying the kids could never catch him. Now she understood, leprechauns ARE real, they just were too sneaky for her trap. Next year, a better trap. She'd catch him for sure!

Thanks Miss Manibusan for stepping in and restoring Adelaide's faith in fairy-folk. She could not have been more thoroughly convinced that leprechauns were real if she had one sitting on her head. Teachers are the best.

And, to end the post, here is a cute picture of Eleanor holding some candy coins sent by an old friend last week.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
