A Panda Emergency

We've got a lot of stuffed panda bears at our house. The girls love pandas, so there is that. They once talked their Dad into getting them stuffed pandas from the zoo. And, Adelaide's school mascot is a panda, so she's got some sweet panda gear there. And, the adoption agency sent both our boys little pandas. Plus, Aunt Eve and Uncle Jed sent Jefferson a really big panda (which he loves, thank you). Lots of pandas.

But, our stuffed pandas were not enough this week, no not enough. One night the girls decided to pile pandas on Jefferson at bedtime, to help remind him of China so he wouldn't cry at night (he's sleeping soundly almost every night now - thank goodness for the return of sleep!). And, we told them he never actually saw any pandas in China. Jaws dropped... what? Yes, it's true girls, pandas don't just wander the streets, they live in isolated bamboo forests. Until coming to our home, his life had been quite panda-less.

The horror! Can we tell you? The girls were HORRIFIED. But, they knew where we could find some pandas, yes they did, and so today we wound up at the zoo to introduce Jefferson to some pandas.

Jefferson, and the rest of the kids, loved the pandas (Xiong Mao!). And the polar bears, and the frogs and the snakes and the giraffes and the elephants. But, most especially the skyfari.

Skyfari buddies.

This! This! This!

Uh-oh, watch out there Adelaide!

Hey kids... quite lion around!

Whew! Jefferson has now seen real, honest to goodness pandas - and a lot of other fun animals. Poor Jefferson is drinking through a fire hose. So much newness, so much change. A lot of it is really exciting and fun for him. Everyday, he gets a little brighter, a little happier, a little calmer. But, most days it's still a struggle. But we're getting there. We're getting there Jefferson! We look forward to lots of zoo trips with this crew for many years to come.
