Melinda's been celebrating her 29th birthday for a few years now, and they just keep getting better and better.
This year, we drove up to Julian to enjoy a walk around the main street and eat some delicious apple pie. Julian doesn't exactly boast the foliage of our old home out East, but it still has far more trees than the coast, and we enjoyed walking in the shade and untangling Eleanor from the berry bushes.
On our way back, we spotted a sign for a Camel Dairy, so of course we HAD to pull over and check that out. While they didn't have a license to sell camel milk (they made lotions), they did have imported camel's milk chocolate from Dubai. It was overpriced but also rich, salty and delicious. Well done camels.

The girls weren't big fans of the camels.
But Steven fears no large, gangly beast.
He "mooo-ed" at the camels, petted
every single one, and cried when we left.
Today, the girls were SO excited to wake up for Mom's birthday. They ran up and down the hall yelling, "Happy Birthday" over and over. It's not a bad way to wake up.
The girls carefully carried all mom's
presents down and put them on the mantle.
Adelaide and spent weeks coloring different
"Happy Birthday" pictures for Mom, and Eleanor
wrapped up many of her own toys to share.
(And there was a rice maker! Thanks Matt.)
Wearing the leftover ribbons.
After church and a lazy afternoon, we headed over to Granny and Poppa's for a delicious chicken dinner and one of Grandpa Phil's famous Bundt cakes. Jed and Eve joined us for a fun evening of eating, chatting and occasionally saving Steven from being run over be his sisters while they pedaled tricycles around the patio. Thanks for the great birthday everyone!
