Matt had a birthday today, and the girls were SO excited to get everything ready for him. Melinda went back to work the day before, just part-time for the next month. So, she was still able to pick them up early from school and take them to the dollar store where they picked out streamers, balloons and lots of $1 boxes of candy.
Cake decorators hard at work...
When Eleanor ran out of candy,
she took it pretty hard.
Their masterpiece!
Adelaide even balled the melon
for the dinner.
The girls were so happy when Dad was finally home, getting to jump out and say "Happy Birthday!" Steven, throughout all the prep work, was having a ball playing with the balloons and crawling about underfoot.
Kids couldn't take their eyes off the cake,
even for a little picture!
Happy Birthday!
Since we moved into our new home and have a backyard again, Matt has really been wanting a barbecue. Melinda researched and studied up on grills and found a great deal at Target over Memorial Day. But, the grill was so heavy, she was barely able to get it out of the mini-van on her own. She pushed it to the center of the garage and couldn't get it to budge any more. And, where would she put it anyway, the box was HUGE?
So, Matt actually got his birthday present weeks ago by virtue of his wife's puny arms. But, we did manage a few surprises like some grill gear, and new hair trimmer and runner's hat.
Ready to grill!
In the last year we've bought a house, taken on some pretty huge remodeling and fixer projects, started the kids in a new school, spent three weeks in China and added a third child to our crew. Whew! Can't wait to see what 32 brings.
