Princesses, Doctors and Astronauts

One of the best parts of having two little girls in our home is watching them let their imaginations fly. Their favorite game is dress-up. How they love to dress up!

For Christmas, the girls were given several princess dresses to add to the tiaras, fairy wings, super hero cape and wands they already had in their growing "dress-up" treasure chest. It's so fun to see the outfits they put together.

On New Year's Eve, we told Adelaide we were going to dinner at her great-grandma and grandpa's house (granny and poppa). She ran to her room and after a couple minutes, came out in her "fancy" outfit.

Accessorized for the New Year

Eleanor tends to be a bit simpler in her accessorizing. Probably because she can't quite work the buttons and velcro as well as her sister yet.

Some days, she just wants to be a fairy.

She decided her swimsuit needed some
accessorizing and added a skirt and headband
while mom packed lunch.

Of course, some of their favorite characters to dress up as are Disney characters.

A Mini-Minnie Mouse.

Cinderella often wanders through the
kitchen while Melinda is cooking.

Tiana is a frequent guest as well.

Belle likes to hang out while Mom makes
dinner in hope of getting handouts.

Princess Elsa is a more recent addition
to our dress-up box, but already a favorite.

And, of course, the girls also love going off script and making their own princess outfits.

Princess Adelaide and Princess Nukey.
(She made her monkey a dress out of a purple scarf.)

Only towels available? No problem
for this beach princess.

Blanket kimonos are an exotic option.

With two little girls in the house, princesses are a favorite. But, if anyone's feminist sensibilities have been offended, fear not. Our girls play with lego blocks, soccer balls and love reading books too. And, our dress-up box has several outfit to support possible future career choices for the kids, if the royalty thing doesn't work out.

Dr. Eleanor is always ready to
help an injured toy.

Adelaide dreams of being an allergist.

These explorers can see all the wonders of the
world through their toilet paper roll binoculars.

Super Eleanor likes to
tell jokes and make everyone laugh.

She's an astronaut.
We don't have spacesuits, so they improvised.

 Scrumptious Plastic Gumbo

Giant raspberry ice cream cones were the result
of one play-kitchen adventure for these little chefs.

When we leave the house, Melinda usually requests most of the costume pieces stay behind. But, the kids often keep a few accessories to spice up their outfits.

Adelaide's pediatrician kept telling her
she didn't need the mask. Clearly,
he didn't understand the importance
of fashion accessories.

Seeing the world through rose-colored lenses.

Sunglasses are a favorite,
no matter the weather.

Do you think five necklaces and
eight bracelets will be enough?

Having small children around the house is so much fun. They bring creativity and imagination to everything they do. We love listening to them play - chatting with each other about what it would be like to be a mermaid, re-enacting a favorite book or pretending the living room is a giant stage for their dance performances. Life is always an adventure.
