Mormon Battalion Commemoration Celebration

A few weeks ago in our church program, we saw that the Mormon Battalion museum downtown was hosting a commemoration event with a Dutch Oven cook off. Matt, and his six dutch ovens were ecstatic. Any excuse for peach cobbler!

(Okay, technically a couple of them belong to his sisters. But, they enthusiastically supported our use of them so long as we stored them).

Not so long story even shorter - Matt signed up and last weekend we found ourselves enjoying a sunny morning in Old Town, feasting on slow cooked mountain meals and sipping cold root beers.

Let the Bake Off Begin!

Adelaide loved running between the tents
doing all the crafts, including quilting,
brick making and doll making.

All Eleanor really wanted to do was run
circles around the flag pole.

Biscuit on a stick - hot!

Eleanor helping Adelaide play music…
Adelaide really is a very patient big sister.

Ye olde candy sticks break.

Occasionally we'd check in on Dad
to see how our lunch was coming along.

The girls got to share a soda from the Old Town
Root Beer shop. Yum!

Between the cooking, crafts and just chatting with everyone else there, we had a lot of fun. We'll definitely go again next year.

  1. So fun! Jakob, apparently, is in the video that they show somewhere out there for the Mormon Battalion stuff (is there a visitor's center out there?)

    1. There is! But, we haven't gone yet. Now that we know we can admire Jakob's face though... we'll make it a priority :).
