Notable Quotables

It's time for another edition of Melinda's favorite type of blog post - crazy things my kids are saying now. And, at long last, Eleanor has finally made an appearance on our quote listing.

Welcome Eleanor!

Eleanor has a limited vocabulary (Mama, Dada, 'ister, More, Bath, No). But, what she lacks in words she makes up in working the baby signs and wildly gesticulating.

"More!"
Eleanor loves green vegetables, but
her favorite food over all else is broccoli

She's become especially expressive in the last month and it's a lot of fun to see her and Adelaide interacting at a new level. There are a few more squabbles over toys as Eleanor tries to assert herself, but for the most part they are pretty good at sharing. In fact, the other day Adelaide told us she likes Eleanor so much that she wants us to have 5 more bothers and sisters. Upon further inquiry, we learned that was 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Yikes!

The kids are pretty cute...

But 11 might be a little more than we can handle.

Random Picture - Adelaide hasn't sucked her
thumb since the dentist told her it was bad for her teeth
earlier this week. Hope it lasts!

But enough from us parents, here is what the kids have to say:

Matt: "Adelaide, I'm going to beat you up the stairs!"
Adelaide: "I'M going to beat me upstairs!"

Adelaide: This is Prince Naveen Frog. And Princess Tiana Duck.
Melinda: Oh, really?
Adelaide: Yes. And they are going to Bethlehem.
Melinda: What are they going to do in Bethlehem?
Adelaide: They are going to be children of God. And, they are going to get the plates.
Melinda: Like Nephi?
Adelaide: Yes.
Disney meets scriptures. We only have one bath toy frog, so Tiana had to be the duck.

Adelaide: Mommy, answer my words!

Adelaide: These princesses don't have their friend Tiana. (Referring to her Disney princess pajamas)
Matt: Nope, they don't.
Adelaide: Oops, try again jam-mas.
Matt: Is Princess Tiana your favorite princess?
Adelaide: Yes, a little bit. (chuckling)

Adelaide: I have a baby boy in my tummy. But he isn't out yet. I will take him out, and then he will be born. And, he will play the guitar.... oh, he is yawning. He needs to go to sleep, in my tummy.

HOA President: Does anyone else have any nominees for the board?
Eleanor: Ma-ma!
HOA President: Well, she's got the youth vote.
Eleanor's comedic timing on this was perfect. She brought the house down laughing. Melinda was already on the ballot, but the enthusastic support was probably what sealed the election for her.

Melinda: What song do you want to sing next?
Adelaide: The snot sucker song.
Melinda: Ummm...the snot sucker song? I don't know that one.
Adelaide: It's goes like this: Snot Sucker, snot sucker, snot sucker! In my nose, in my nose, in my nose!

Melinda: How many sisters do you have?
Adelaide: Two.
Melinda: Two?
Adelaide: Yes. One at Dilek's and one in my tummy. He is a baby Adelaide. He is taking a long time to come out.
Melinda: I see....
Dilek is Eleanor's Day Care provider, no idea why a potential sister is a "he"...

Adelaide: I'm scared of dogs.
Melinda: What about dogs makes you scared?
Adelaide: The woofs.

Melinda: Look Adelaide, they have two dogs.
Adelaide: The first dog is going to eat the second dog!
Melinda: What? No, he isn't!
Adelaide: Yes! Yes, he is.

Adelaide: Can I get married?
Melinda: Sure, who do you want to marry?
Adelaide: Can I marry Eleanor?
Melinda: I don't know, you'll have to ask her.
Adelaide: Eleanor, will you marry me?
Eleanor: Nuh!
Adelaide: She said no!

Melinda: Eleanor, do you want cheerios or a banana?
Eleanor: Pur-ple.

  2. I used to suck my finger too. My mom tried everything to get me to stop till one day the dentist told me it was bad for my teeth and to my mother's eternal exasperation I never sucked my finger again. I don't know what it is about the dentist but I believe him over my mother.

  3. I've been collecting spotlight info for the Jr. Primary over the last few weeks, and I find it fascinating that the story of Nephi going to get the plates is the favorite scripture story of 9 out of 15 Sunbeams. What does it mean???

Elenore is my new get-your-greens role model! And she's already taking on civic responsibilities. I know we'll see great things from this one!
