The Christmas Season at Last

Melinda has been itching to get our Christmas decorations up since Halloween. Only lack of a free afternoon prevented her from climbing up into the attic and liberating the nutcrackers early this year. But, we waited until the Sunday after Thanksgiving to break open the boxes.

Putting up the decorations around our house is a big job for two reasons: 1) We have a lot of decorations, and 2) Eleanor thinks they all look delicious. So, to prevent Eleanor from ingesting any manager creatures, shocking herself with multi-colored lights or cutting herself on a breakable ornament - we rearranged all the furniture. The couch now effectively blocks off the Christmas tree and window lights. Everything else went on high shelves.

We waited until the kids were in bed to put up all the really breakable things, like nativities and stocking holders. But, Adelaide had a great time putting up the Christmas tree and the ornaments. She's been asking when we could get our own tree since the first decorations started going up in Target.

Our little elf was thrilled with all the
new additions around the house.

Adelaide is big on "matching" right now. She tried to put all
the blue ornaments on one branch, the red on another, etc...
She was especially excited to hang up the ornament we
let her pick out last week in Williamsburg.

Can I eat these, please?

This is so shiny! I must bang on it like a drum.

And a star on top!

Can we keep it up all year?

It's so nice to come downstairs to bright Christmas lights every morning. We've had the decorations up for a few days and Adelaide still exclaims, "It's Christmas! Our tree is glowing!" every morning when we go down for breakfast. Eleanor waves her arms wildly and claps every time she sees the tree. We're cranking up the carols on our iTunes and busting out the stop-motion puppet Christmas specials. The ho-ho-holidays are here!
