We'd been waiting all month for Grandma and Grandpa to come, not only because we were excited to see them, but because we had been postponing our pumpkin patch trip until they arrived. Alas, ALAS, Sandy rained all over our planned pumpkin patch day.
But, Melinda wasn't going to let a little thing like Halloween being over and done with spoil her holiday plans. So, everyone humored her and bundled up to go to the pumpkin patch on Saturday. At Cox Farms, they were sending Halloween out with a bang.. and a splat... and a squish. The remaining pumpkins were dropped from a crane, thrown against spikes and generally annihilated in medieval ways. It was awesome, or would have been, if it wasn't so cold.
We buttoned up our coats and made the most of it. Adelaide loved the slides more than anything else. The higher and faster the slide, the more she smiled and laughed. She probably would have done them all day if she hadn't been turning into a kid-sicle. We kept it short. But, we'll definitely be back next year (earlier, when it's warmer out).

Wheee!!!
Even Eleanor got in on the action,
though she slept through most of it.
Beep, beep! Adelaide has never met
a steering wheel she didn't want to spin.
Eleanor loved the hay ride. She loved the hay, she loved
the animals and funny scenes we passed. Adelaide, well,
not so much. She wanted to go back to the slides.
After Mom and Dad refused to be sympathetic when
Adelaide insisted that she didn't like the hay ride, she
abandoned them for her grandparents.
After we defrosted from our pumpkin patch trip, it was time to take Grandma and Grandpa to the airport. Boo hoo hoo. But, we still had one last Halloween hurrah before our post-holiday holiday celebrations were through. Our church party was postponed from Tuesday until Saturday evening. With a cake walk, hot dogs and lots of fun activities, if was the perfect thing to help the kids forget how sad they were that their grandparents had gone home.
Trunk- or-Treat! Adelaide doubled her original
Halloween candy stash!
Adelaide is already asking for "more Halloween." But, we explained that we have to get ready for our next holiday - Thanksgiving. We're going to take a family trip to Williamsburg and partake of our feast colonial style. Adelaide seemed skeptical, not enjoying the lack of candy or promise of a road trip in our description. But, she was intrigued by the prospect of an olde time bonnet.
And, to end the post, here's one more picture from our week. On Friday we visited the National Archives and the Museum of Natural History. The Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Hope Diamond all in one trip - wow! Of course, Adelaide didn't care much about old documents or necklaces. Her favorite part was the dinosaurs.
"It's a BIIIIIG crocodile."
I agree, the Hope diamond was totally underwhelming. I blame Hollywood.
