On Monday, hundreds of thousands of revelers gathered on the National Mall to celebrate our nation’s independence. A slightly reduced, but just as enthusiastic, crowd gathered at Dunn Loring Park to celebrate Adelaide’s independence from her mom’s tummy.
We were fortunate to be joined by over 70 friends as we BBQ'd to Adelaide’s 1st and Uncle Sam’s 235th birthday. Many hot dogs and burgers were eaten. The kids ran wild on the playground, mastered the ring toss, and soaked each other with squirt guns. The adults were somewhat more subdued with their partying - though a few Dads took to the squirt guns with even more enthusiasm than their offspring.
The decorations were Adelaide-Approved.
Matt was the grill master.
It's hard to blow out a candle with your thumb
in your mouth. So, Mom and Dad had to help.
Everyone had a great time.
We saved Adelaide’s cupcake until after the lunch-time BBQ, so she could eat it with her highchair and tray. She was a bit confused at first. But, after Matt dipped her fingers in the frosting and stuck them in her mouth, she started into the dessert with gusto.
What is this?
Some bread thing? No, thanks.
Wait a second...
Sugar!
Yum, yum, yum. Delicious!
This is way better than carrots and peas!
Hi Mom!
Playing with Dad in the big pool was fun too!
After such an exciting day, our little firecracker was pretty exhausted. She fell asleep long before the first colorful rocket lit up the sky.
We weren't sure who was more tuckered
out, Adelaide or her parents.
What a fun day! Happy Birthday Yankee Doodle Baby!
