When Melinda was in the first grade, she used her tooth fairy money to buy raffle tickets at her elementary school fundraiser. Her parents cautioned the miniature Melinda against it, warning that she was going to lose her dollar. But, she did it anyway. She was as sure as only a child can be, that she was going to win.
And she did win… a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day cake.
Perhaps it was that early taste of the glory that has motivated her to keep on entering just about every contest she comes across. And, when you enter as many contests as Melinda does, you are bound to win something every once in a while.

Since marrying this entry addict, Matt has climbed aboard the contest-train. Just this past month he won a $15 iTunes gift card and a $100 gift card to Cellars of Chainbridge. We had to laugh when his name was drawn at the McLean Day Festival for a gift card to the hottest wine store in McLean - but we were still thrilled. They also have one of the finest cheese and salami sections in the area.
Whether the prize is big or small, winning is fun! But, we've got to admit, winning big may be just a little more fun than winning small. Today in the mail we got our biggest prize yet: the first shipment in our YEAR’S SUPPLY OF CHEEZ-ITS! For those of you who haven’t been accosted by an over-excited Melinda spreading the good news - Melinda won this prize from the “Choose the Cheese” promotion on Facebook, which asked fans to vote for the next Cheez-it flavor. Even though the cheese she voted for lost (your time will come asiago), she walked away with the grand prize.
What does a year's supply of Cheez-its entail? Well, it's 12 boxes a month for 12 months - so 144 boxes. This works out to be roughly one box every two and a half days. Each of the 45,000 individual cheez-its we won is roughly 1 square inch. That means we have enough to tile Melinda's old college dorm room floor with crackers - and Matt's. Time to get snacking!
