A Celebration of Matt

Father’s Day wasn’t the only reason we had to celebrate our incredible husband and father this weekend. It was also Matt’s birthday on Saturday. So, Melinda and Adelaide went all out to plan an all-Matt weekend.

We started out the big day by showering him with gifts. Adelaide was excited to help officially unwrap the presents – she had already found the hiding place and unwrapped them once, unofficially, on her own.

Which to open first?

After presents came a breakfast at ihop, a trip to the farmer’s market, and a geo-caching picnic. We’ve been meaning to do some geo-caching for a while. But, our afternoon efforts were slightly discouraging. We abandoned the first search after the mosquitoes put up an insurmountable defense of the cache. And, we were seriously beginning to doubt our abilities when we came up empty again on a second attempt due to GPS signal failure. But, the third time was the charm when we found the last cache on our list in less than five minutes. Perhaps all that Easter egg hunting as children wasn’t in vain.

Fun plans for the pool, zoo, and other activities were then put on hold. In addition to more traditional presents, Adelaide also gave her bronchitis/cold to us. So, we chose to substitute naps for other activities. We did not skip out on cake, however, enjoying some heavenly Cold Stone ice-cream cupcakes at the end of the day!

Alas, there was not enough room for
28 candles on the cupcake.

Father’s Day was also spent with much lounging, a few presents, some warm soup, boxes of Kleenex, and more delicious cupcakes - while Adelaide entertained us with her new, self-taught trick.

This may not look exciting to the untrained eye -
but having a child entertain themself when you are
too exhausted to get off the couch is VERY exciting.

Despite being under the weather, we had a lot of fun appreciating and celebrating our awesome, wonderful, amazing, stupendous, fantastic husband and father.  We will spare our blog readers the mushy sentimentality, but to say, “We LOVE Matt!”

  3. Seems like you made the best of your celebrations even with the colds. I would watch Adelaide play with her toys any day - and love it! Happy birthday Matt!
