Cherry Blossom Festival

Today, Melinda made egg drop soup for lunch using chives from our garden. This was especially exciting not just because the soup was so darn tasty, but because it was the first time we have raided our backyard herbs since they went into winter hibernation.

Everywhere we look, the unmistakable signs of spring are present. In the capitol area, it’s a tradition to kick off the spring season with the Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s amazing to see the 2,000 or so trees encircling the Tidal Basin in full bloom. We love going to this festival every year, though we've learned to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds of other admirers.

Adelaide wasn't all that excited about the trees...

...until she was able to inspect them up close.

A short walk from the Tidal Basin is the garden behind the Smithsonian Castle. It has only a fraction of the people, but is just as beautiful with its cherry trees, dogwoods, magnolias, and hundreds of flowers.  We've never been able to find hyacinths as purple as these anywhere else.

The flowers were saved from Adelaide's aggressive curiosity
when she decided that crawling on squishy grass was too strange.

To all of our friends in Utah and Idaho that looked out their windows this morning to see snow... we'd like to remind you that we have a guest bedroom. Come visit anytime!

  2. So jealous. It doesn't look much like spring here! And I absolutely love Adelaide's jacket. Where did you get that??
