After a "rough" first week of school, the kids were treated to a three day weekend! Yay for labor day!
Since Melinda has her birthday next week, and starts her new job, we decided to cram a lot of celebration and fun into the weekend.
We decided to try apple picking in Julian, which we've heard about for years as a fun fall activity. If we're being totally honest, the apple trees in Julian are pretty short and scrubby. And, the apples are pretty small and sour. We're beginning to think all those apple pies Julian is famous for use out-of-state apples (scandal!).
Despite the apples being a little disappointment, we had a lot of fun picking them. All of the kids enjoyed picking fruit, though two of our clan were a little more focused and industrious than the other two. You'll probably be able to spot which ones liked to take snack breaks from the pics.

Another one for the bag.
Lifting up Steven to reach more apples.
Eating two at a time!
Adelaide also hit up some pear trees.
Snack break!
More pear pickin'
Still eating...
This thing is heavy!
Brothers to the rescue!
Team Fruit Pickers
Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Julian without stopping for apple pie. Even if they do use out-of-state apples, it's still delicious pie!
Wait... this isn't pie?
Matt eats a... I dunno…
heart attack sausage explosion?
Mmm... Pie!
When your sissy is tired and sad and you demand
that she be happy again...
Kissy fish face, kissy fish face, kissy fish face!
Is that a hint of a smile?
Steven wins!
The sign said "don't stand" so they
decided to sit... store lady was not amused.
After Julian we kept our activities a little closer to home. The kids have been asking to go bowling for sometime, and we finally found a Groupon to knock the price down a bit.
It's pin smashing time.
Hugging her ball cause it's PINK!
Jefferson was a great cheering squad
when it wasn't his turn.
Offered to take the kids out to lunch...
they chose McDonalds. Delish.
Goodbye summer! It's been fun. Well... really, we live in San Diego, so it's not really good bye summer. It will be warm until Thanksgiving... and then, just a little less warm. But, we'll miss the homework-free nights and summer visitors.
