We've already had soooo much candy this month. SOOOO much. So, we decided not to pass out candy this Halloween. No, we didn't do raisins. We're not monsters. We passed out foam glider kits. Seemed to go okay, no one egged our house or toilet papered us.
The kids were so excited to venture out and go trick-or-treating, at cooler homes than ours. Places where parents didn't complain about all the sugar and passed out heaping handfuls of chocolate bars and sugar treats. Seriously, people were putting handfuls of candy into Eleanor's bucket. Handfuls!
But, let's back up. First we had to get ready for Halloween. The kids covered our kitchen pantry with colorful decorations. And, everyone had fun squishing pumpkin guts, eating seeds, and carving patterns.

Steven and Eleanor are responsible for 80%
of our amazing pantry artwork.
Getting out the guts.
Jefferson was more interested in
squishing the guts then taking them out.
Eleanor was focused on the seeds,
looking forward to Mom roasting them.
The final pumpkins!
Matt's looked like Jesus...
...but, he fixed it!
Also, dinner in a pumpkin!
Okay, onto the main event - Halloween! The kids were encouraged to wear their costumes to school by their teachers. But, none of them wanted to risk getting their costumes all messy before trick-or-treating time. Fortunately, we have a large dress up chest to turn too.
Two football players, a wizard and little red riding hood!
After school they changed into their prime time costumes. An incredible troupe of super do-gooders.
Jensens...assemble!
Adelaide as Rey
Eleanor as Wonder Woman
Jefferson as Captain America
Steven as Iron Man
Having properly outfit themselves, the hurried off to Lauren's house to trick-or-treat with Elsa (Evelyn), Mal (Lauren), and Waldo (another friend).
The full team!
The boys lasted a whole hour before Matt took them home. They protested leaving loudly, but were sleeping soundly within moments of getting in bed. The girls did the full neighborhood. It seemed a bit slow this year, and toward the end of the night, homeowners were dumping big piles of candy into their buckets. We were glad when they ran out of houses, because those buckets didn't look like they could hold anymore.
For the sake of their teeth, we offered to trade them a nickel for each piece of candy they wanted to trade-in. Showing great wisdom, the girls picked out a few favorites and then pocketed the money (about $6 each). They are saving up for tablets and were delighted for a chance to add to their piggy banks.
