Matt Day

Every few years the stars align and Matt's birthday and Father's Day fall on the same date. This was one of those years where the calendar days align for a day of all-Matt celebration. Not that we would be limited to one day. Oh no, we turned it into a Matt weekend!

Matt picked a day out at Point Loma to get the festivities started on Saturday. Walking along the beach, poking anemones, and watching the boats and planes go by. The perfect morning. We followed it up with lunch at Barra Barra in Old Town and then - naps! Well, for the kids at least.

Jefferson was lot feeling picturing posing.

Jefferson look over here - no.

Look out sea anemone!

Poke!

 Even with Adelaide's great example,
Jefferson still got no smiles.

Jefferson refused to even be part of this...until...
Steven hoped down, walked over to him and said, "Your turn!"

Jefferson went and took his spot with a great big smile
while Steven refused to get in the picture.
PROOF! It was a conspiracy all along.

Bean dip for everyone!

Sunday we continued our celebration. The kids decorated the wall with a plethora of Dad-themed art work. Presents were heaped on the table. Eleanor was offering unlimited free hugs. Granny and Papa joined us for dinner to round out the celebration.

The only challenge left between us and the perfect weekend - the cake. Matt loves ice cream cake. It was his only request. We tried to order one in advanced from Baskin Robbins, but our local store wasn't taking orders. And, when Adelaide and Melinda went out to look for an ice cream cake... they were all coffee flavored or shaped like beer steins. Really? Are these the best Father's Day themes you've all got? Finally, we found a peanut butter ice cream cake at Vons. Adelaide had to crawl past half a dozen Hello Kitty cakes to find the last one at the back of the freezer case. It was cold and she hates peanut butter, but it was for her dad! So, she was a proud and brave arctic cake explorer.

The kids couldn't wait for Dad to open their presents.

It suites him!

Eleanor showing off a beautiful card.

Adelaide did a peace sign so all her small people
tried to copy. Steven may have thought they were doing scissors.

The hard-won ice cream cake. It was delicious!

Dad and Great Granddad the house!

And their lovely ladies.
