Christmas Eve and the Santa Trap

For years.... years, every Christmas Eve my parents would let me open a present early. And, I'd always have big dreams of it being something totally awesome. And, it was always pajamas (so we'd look nice in the pictures the next morning). But, for some reason, I never caught on... I always expected a book or a toy...

So what I'm saying is, our girls are a lot more clever than their Mom. This morning, they walked down the stairs and asked, "When do we get to open up our pajamas?" Too smart.

After a busy week, we spent today preparing for Christmas with last minute wrapping and getting ready for house guests. And, eventually, unwrapping our Christmas pajamas and building gingerbread houses.

 Jefferson was delighted with
sugar cookie decorating. He spent 45 minutes
licking frosting off his cookie and fingers.

Steven was so happy when the
train started to take shape.

The girls worked on the house.

Eleanor's side of the house was
loaded with sweets and treats!

 Adelaide's was simple and elegant.

Hmmm... I wonder what could be in these boxes?

After talking to their classmates about Christmas traditions, the girls decided we needed to leave a plate of cookies out for Santa. And, not only that, they were going to make a trap so they could catch Santa. Now, our girls know Santa isn't real... but they worked out their trap idea with Dad knowing that "Santa Mom" couldn't resist a plate of cookies. Alas, so true.

The plate of cookies was rigged with bells and placed outside their door so that when Santa Mom tried to eat one, she'd ring the bell. Then they could run out and trap her.

The trap was set.

And, they didn't have to wait long. Only a few minutes after they laid down, the bell began to ring. Those sneaky girls sprang into action, rushed out, and tackled that mom with hugs. Wonderful Christmas Eve cuddles to end the night.

After some goodnight cuddles, Santa Mom and Santa Dad got to work filling stockings and wrapping presents.

Great job Santas!
