How Many Years Bad Luck?

When we purchased our new home, it had large, mirror panels covering an entire wall in the dining room. The mirror was not tempered glass, a huge safety no-no. So, we had the painters remove it and re-texture the wall prior to us moving in.

They left the large mirror panels in our side yard. We were just going to throw them away... but Melinda thought someone might want them. So, she listed them for free on Craig's List.

Shame on her for trying to reduce landfill waste!

Someone did claim the mirrors, and came to pick up while we were all at work. This is what Melinda came home to...

All over the front walk...

One of the large mirror panels was gone. The other was in pieces all over our front walk, small and large. This picture is only a small pile of the shards. Large ones were tossed in the dirt, small pieces ground into the dirt, sidewalk and grass - it was a mess!

Matt was out of town for this one, in Los Angeles for an American Society of Appraisers training.

Melinda did a pretty solid job on the clean up... but we still wouldn't suggest walking up to our front door unless you have shoes on.

When Matt returned, he put all the mirror fragments out for recycling. And, we came home to...

Matt got stuck with that clean up, though one of neighbors kindly chipped in. Wasn't even mad that we covered the street in potentially tire shredding glass shards.

So, we're not sure how many years of bad luck have been wracked up on these mirrors yet... but we're sure it's getting up there. However, since we haven't technically broken anything, we're hoping the bad luck will skip up and the karma will follow those that keep leaving us the mess.

Either way, if we are ever left with giant oversized pieces of glass again, we'll haul it to the dump ourselves.
