LoziLu Mud Run

Melinda hates running. Really. Like really, really. Running a marathon, or a half marathon, or to the mailbox... She's never had a desire to do any of those things.

So, why on earth did she sign up to run a 5K in the middle of the hot and humid summer?

Was it the awesome friends?
Nope... sorry, we can hang out at the mall too.

Was it the chance to support
an amazing charity and help sick children?
Ummm, no. That just took a check.

So, what could possibly convince Melinda to do something she really, truly abhors? A renewed interest in fitness? Trying to set an example for the kids? Temporary loss of sanity?

No - No - No. The real reason was...

MUD!!!

When it comes to army crawling through giant mud pits, Melinda's like a little kid. She leaps at the opportunity to play in dirt, splash in rain puddles or to pretend she is on one of those obstacle-course, slime-filled Nickelodeon shows that she loved to watch when she was a kid.

Melinda was humming the spiderman
theme song through this one.

Heidi took things up a notch (down a notch?)
by limboing under the obstacle.

The only kind of lame part of the event
(other than the running....lame), was that some of the
more difficult obstacles had lines. Here we are
striking a pose while waiting for some other runners to
get un-stuck from the top of a climbing pyramid.

Finally, our turn to get stuck at the top.

This one was pretty easy, but still a lot of fun.

3 miles in and we can still kick up our heels.

Victory!

Adelaide spent the entire week leading up to the run trying to talk Mom out of it. She's generally opposed to getting muddy or dirty. Unlike Eleanor, who was trying to break out of her stroller and show off her crawling and splashing skills in the mud obstacles.

"I don't want your mud hugs!"
(But, Eleanor was happy to plant some
kisses on Mom's muddy cheeks)

Special thanks to Matt who ran around the center of the winding course with two little girls to snap some fun pictures. The girls had a lot of fun seeing Mom do crazy things. And, Matt got a good laugh every time we emerged from a new obstacle sputtering mud and pulling sticks out of our hair.
