Happy Easter! We had a great weekend filled with egg hunts and egg dying and egg-shaped pancakes - but without any actual eggs of course.
Yesterday we went to the Falls Church City Easter Egg Hunt. Adelaide was so excited to go to an Easter egg hunt near the farmer's market. She'd been talking about it all week.
Goofing off on the way to the hunt.
She was extremely excited, that is, until we got there, and she saw how many other kids were there. She's pretty shy, and wanted to go straight home. We convinced her to stick it out, pointed out the eggs she could get and the toys. We tried to sing and tell jokes, but she was apprehensive about the whole thing. Finally, the whistle blew.
Adelaide started running and didn't look back. Past all the eggs, the lollipops, the toys, the other kids... she was off like a rocket. Melinda had to go leaping in, wading through munchkins to catch her and bring her back to the hunt. Adelaide did manage to get a couple eggs and a lollipop with Mom's help.
I guess we can't blame her for wanting to escape the chaos.
Eleanor dove into the ruckus and picked up
an egg of her own. She's a brawler.
The kids were relieved to head home for some crowd-less activities. We had a lot of fun dying our egg-nots. Egg-nots are ceramic eggs that look and feel just like hard boiled eggs. What will they think of next? They were a lot of fun. They worked just like real eggs, except for the whole egg salad sandwiches after Easter part.
Egg artists hard at work.
Magnifico!
Eleanor enjoyed banging them together -
Wham! Wham! Wham!
On Easter morning the girls were up early. Adelaide came bursting into our room yelling, "Happy Easter!" Eleanor was bursting our eardrums through the monitor, but we're pretty sure her yelling translated to something like, "MILK NOW!"
The girls made short work of the baskets. Eleanor flipped them over and spread all the goodies around the room, while Adelaide went straight to work biting off peep heads.
Farewell Peeps.
Floor decorator extraordinaire
Adelaide was really excited to have a "just family" Easter egg hunt with none of those "other people." But, it was still a bit cold out. So, we opted for breakfast first. Adelaide campaigned hard to be allowed to eat Peeps and chocolate bunnies for breakfast. She got over the disappointment of being denied when she saw what Mom had made for breakfast - Easter egg pancakes! (Oh, and grapes).
Adelaide felt that the purple ones
tasted the best.
Here we go!
Eggs cleverly hidden in plain sight.
Eleanor liked putting her eggs in the basket,
dumping them out, putting them back, dumping, and so forth...
After a few minute, Eleanor dragged her
basket over to Dad and played with him
while Adelaide cleaned up the lawn.
Eleanor just had Cherrios in her eggs, but she's been doing her best to steal jelly beans when Adelaide isn't looking. Sorry kiddo, you need more teeth first.
Matching dresses! This was the best picture we were
able to snap of them together before Eleanor created
a laundry situation, as babies are prone to do.
Yummm... jelly beans and Cheerios!

I love the dresses! And it's true: purple pancakes are superior to all other colors of pancakes. :)
