Adelaide heard a rumor going around that if you didn't wear green on St. Patrick's Day - you might get pinched! So, last night before going to bed, she made sure her pajamas had green on them. She didn't want to be pinched by any visiting leprechauns in the middle of the night. She even slept on her St. Patrick's Day pillow case (thanks Oma Jensen).
Even the sheets are green, no
pinching going on here.
Adelaide thought the leprechauns would
like the chalkboard picture Mommy drew for them.
When we woke up, we found that the leprechauns had stopped by for a visit! Adelaide was very excited to find a note taped to the gate at the top of our stairs.
Some hastily scribbled limericks reminded us
that St. Patrick was an awesome guy.
In honor of him, the leprechauns had decided to
do something nice for us too!
This little leprechaun was waiting at the
start of our treasure hunt.
We followed their trail of gold coins and
shamrocks downstairs, through the hall, and all the way to the...
...end of the rainbow!
The girls loved the new green train
that the leprechauns brought them.
It even plays an Irish Jig when you push it!
(Yep - a toy leprechaun train. You can find
ANYTHING on the internet... except a pot o' gold
chocolate coins that are nut-free, hence the train.)
The kids had a great time counting coins (or just hoarding them in Eleanor's case) and pushing the train around. In particular, Eleanor enjoyed chewing on the little lemonade and cookie stands that came with it. Sorry Eleanor, those shamrock cookies are just plastic. But, since our church doesn't meet until the middle of the day, we did had time to make real green cookies (after a hearty green breakfast, of course).
Carrot muffins (with green wrappers), green grapes,
and green juice. MMMMmm... kale.
We were "rolling" in the "green dough."
Our multi-holiday collection of 101 cookie cutters
doesn't include shamrocks. But, we made lots of
Easter themed green cookies... and dinosaurs,
there were quite a few dinosaurs.
T-Rex cookie is about to become extinct.
Adelaide took most of the cookies to her
nursery class at church and shared them with her friends.
Hello Little Leprechaun! Eleanor celebrated the
day by cutting three new teeth. We're not
sure if that was lucky or unlucky for her...
Even our MBA countdown Gator was feeling festive.
Only 4 weeks left!
We also felt "lucky" today to have our friends the Rahlfs join us for dinner. They were our very close friends in college. Time and jobs have moved us to different parts of the country over the last decade. Happily, a recent job change is bring their family to the area. We're excited to have them as neighbors.
More green juice, green salad, Irish bannock, colcannon,
and breaded fish with token "shamrock" on top.
It was a great St. Patrick's Day! Now, what to do with all the left over potatoes and cabbage?
Note to Grandparents - Sorry there aren't more pictures of Eleanor. Our human wrecking ball doesn't like to hold still. And, we are often too busy chasing her to take pictures of her. Though, Matt did snap this picture right before ruining her fun and pulling her down.
Dancing is more fun when you are
precariously balanced on an unstable plastic chair.
Eleanor can barely take a few steps on her own, but I'll be if she didn't just hop up and start doing a little Riverdance right there on that chair! Must have been a little leprechaun magic in the air.
