For her birthday this year, Melinda's wish list was short:
At work, Melinda's co-workers drowned her in treats. They've all been working with her long enough to know she has a weakness for sweet things. Donuts in the morning and then a surprise pastry with candles in the afternoon. During a meeting to discuss some problem projects, a pastry topped with birthday candles was brought in. What a nice surprise! Problems can wait until tomorrow, let's dig into the cherry filling.
In the evening, Matt and Adelaide got the family Vietnamese takeout from Melinda's favorite restaurant. Melinda had so many sweets at work that she requested we put off our family cake until this weekend. But, we did add just a little birthday ice cream onto the menu.
- An uniterrupted shower
- An iPhone 5
- To still be 28
Pretty much mission impossible, but Matt and the girls gave it their best shot. Though Adelaide had to be dragged downstairs screaming and bribed with an Elmo video - Melinda did get ready this morning without a little helper trying to throw towels into the running shower or emptying the entire sock drawer on the ground to find Mommy something to cover her "nakey feet."
For the iPhone 5, an IOU was issued. Nothing could be done about getting a year older, so Matt just applied chocolate liberally to the situation. Is there anything a box of truffles can't cure? For good measure, he also threw in a pair of shoes to replace the flats Melinda had just worn out. Bonus husband points for extra thoughtfulness.
Sweet chocolates and sweet girls.

Menu Item #35 - The only way we can
pronounce it is "Yummy."
Someone's got her Mommy's sweet tooth.
Welcome to the last year of your twenties Melinda! Don't worry, it will be the best one yet.

Happy day after your birthday, Melinda! Sorry I missed it on Facebook. Something to do with a screaming toddler who only took a 1 hr nap. Glad to hear other people weren't as forgetful. :) Yay for being 25!
ReplyDeleteOh...I need to get on here more! You are so good at documenting! I am trying to get better. Looks like you are having fun. I hope you had a happy birthday! You look so good and young still!
ReplyDeleteI understand not wanting to get older. I feel the same way :) But, we can always be young at heart, right?! Your girls are looking so much older! We miss you guys :)
