Zoo Trip

Spring has sprung! Our hyacinths and daffodils are blooming and the tulips aren’t far behind. We celebrated the warm weather this weekend by renewing our National Zoo membership. It was Adelaide’s first trip to the zoo.

MUSH, Daddy!

We are so spoiled to live next to such an amazing zoo. There are so many incredible animals and exhibits, and admission is free. Adelaide was pretty ambivalent about most of the animals we saw. The elephants and otters were okay. The apes and gorillas were alright. The lion cubs peaked her interest temporarily. The farm animals actually put her to sleep.

Adelaide tended to like the statues of animals better than the actual animals.

Her favorite part of the zoo, by far, was Amazonia. She couldn’t get enough of the giant fish. Even after we left, she continued “talking” and shrieking excitedly about it for another 45 minutes.

Sorry for the background noise on this. Adelaide wasn't the only person
excited to see the five foot pirarucu... she was just the most excited.

Now that we are zoo members again, we can park for free. Anyone interested in accompanying us on a trip to see the sloth bears?

  1. Admission is free? See, I keep telling Steven that DC is where we need to be. I will add this to the "convincing" list.

  2. The Zoo is part of the Smithsonian, so it's free admission. And, it's a pretty incredible zoo. Parking is kind of pricey, but if you buy a yearly membership, your parking is free. Also, we got a stuffed panda to sweeten the deal. I'm keeping my ears open for graphic design positions. If I hear of any, Steve will be the first to know!

  4. As lovely as the pictures are and as captivating your sweet little one is... the free admission is what caught my attention as well! lol!!! I grew up near San Diego and whenever my parents had business to do downtown, they would drop the older kids off at the zoo for a few hours... yes, the San Diego Zoo! Kids under 16 got in free and it was a different time. Today not only are the admission prices $30 for kids and $40 for 16+, but parents would likely be arrested for leaving kids as young as we were 'unattended' in a public place. For us kids, we LOVED just hanging out with creatures who behaved like we did! (mostly the monkeys!)
