Last Wednesday night, we were hit by a mighty snowstorm. Sure, it only gave us about 5 inches of snow, but it left a wake of destruction in its cold and slushy path.
Groundhog’s Day is next Wednesday. We’re hoping the little critter predicts an early spring, even if it means Adelaide might have to pack away the leg warmers for a while.
The first victim of the storm was our faithful Volvo. When the snow started to fly, Melinda ran out to move the car from its parking spot on the side of the road, to a spot in front of our house (to keep it out of the way of plows). Despite its seat warmers and Swedish heritage, the Volvo is not a snow lovin’ machine. It quickly slid out of control and ended up stuck at the bottom of our sloped street. Some helpful neighbors decided they would tow it up the hill, so we could cruise down into our spot. But, instead of hooking the tow ropes to the special hooks under the bumper, they hooked them to…we’ll, we’re not sure. But, there were pieces of engine all over the road.
It’s a good thing this all happened in front of our house, because it took about 17 hours to get a tow truck out (with all the wrecks and impassible roads). We thought the Volvo was toast, being as it’s an old car and the engine was all over the street. But, we JUST made it under the spend limit and our insurance is going to have it fixed. They were much faster than the tow truck driver, getting our case squared away with a check in the mail as soon as the mechanic assessed the damage (we have Travelers, if anyone is in the market). They even authorized us to fix a couple other old car problems, not related to the accident.
Another victim of the storm was the power at my aunt and uncle’s house. Doug and Angela are about 40 minutes away in Maryland. Without a heater, their home quickly became an ice chest, so they spent a couple nights with us. Their baby girl was born only two days after Adelaide. Getting them together is always fun. Though they spent most of the sleepover waking each other up.

Leg warmers, they warm your cold legs.
Well, your recounting of the story just makes it sound like a hilarious comedy of errors that had everyone in a rollicking good laugh. What? It wasn't that way at the time? You have a great sense of humor! And I love the photos of these two cuties.
