Happy Birthday to Adelaide! For your first birthday present, a four day weekend. Nice to have a summer holiday birthday. Can you believe our little girl is turning seven? We can't. Truly.
After getting Jefferson a candy cake from Vons for his birthday, Adelaide asked if we could get her a fancy cake too. She was only slightly disappointed that the cake she was hoping for and had seen there so often, covered in rosettes, wasn't there. Most of the cakes were patriotic themed. But, she likes her "birthday colors" too, and was happy to pick another option.
After a packed morning, we headed to the carnival on the air force base, guests of our friends the Collinses. There were so many free activities, the kids had a blast. Toward the end of our stay, Adelaide and Eleanor joined in the play sword fighting at the pirate booth. Seeing his sister fighting a ruthless pirate, Steven leapt into action. He grabbed one of the foam swords and rushed the pirate yelling, "Not my sister!" He then proceeded to hack apart the pirates legs. Good thing it was a foam sword. Steven was ruthless. Don't mess with his sisters.
So, it was a pretty busy day - but did we stop there? No! Some friends were looking for an afternoon activity, so we invited them over to the pool. After sending out some text messages, a few families joined us for an impromptu pool party and BBQ. Our cupcake pile was happily depleted by many cheerful children.

Customized with her name.
Over the weekend, we went to the beach with friends. Despite being a warm, July day, the ocean water was cold. The girls braved it, but Steven and Jefferson decided warm sand and dry beach towels were the way to go.
Steven hoped that by staring down Dad and the girls
they would abandon the water and play on shore with him.
Beach bum girl
Boogie boarding.
When sissies came back, Steven got spoiled.
Cuddles and love.
Adelaide asked for an ocean themed party. This simple request was actually not so simple. Of the dozens of themes available between Walmart, Target and Party City, ocean wasn't one. No problem. We made our own kelp forest from crepe paper. The girls colored in pictures of sea creature to complete the forest. We hung toy whales and dolphins from the ceiling. Decorations in place, we had a small family party on Sunday with Grandma and Grandpa.
SEVEN!
What a great cake! Well picked Adelaide.
Wishing big wishes
Steven approved.

On Monday, Adelaide got a few early Christmas presents. Grandma Donna's presents came in the mail and the girls were so excited. They love Beanie Boos. Adelaide also got to go to the pet store and pick out a special friend. She's been wanting a pet for ages. Today she opened an early present, a fish aquarium. We went to the store to pick out a beta fish. She decided on one of the baby fish that she could help grow.
Beanie Boos!
Welcome to the family Redfin.

Finally, the big day arrived. Eleanor decorated the cupcakes for Adelaide, with lots and lots of sprinkles.
Looking tasty
Seven!
Not too old for sister snuggles!
Our friends the Taylors put on a small fun run with letters and everything. The kids had so much fun running with their friends after breakfast, and eating their lollipop prizes. Then home for presents before rushing out again to a family festival on the air base with our friends the Collinses.

At last, it was time for the fireworks. We watched them from a local park. While waiting for them to go off, Brent Collins set up his telescope and helped the kids find Saturn. Fun! When we got home, poor Jefferson laid down on the floor and fell completely asleep. Total crash. It was a big day for our big (and getting bigger) little girl.
