Wrapping up the Vacation

Why do vacations have to end? It's been an amazing few days, but it's finally time to say good bye to Kristin, James and Jessica. Their visit was so fun! Their visits are always so fun. We wish they'd just be our neighbors. Alas, off they fly.

On Wednesday, James and Kristin had to drive north to LA. But, not before spending a few hours with us at Seaport Village, walking by the water and riding the 100 year old carousel. We stuffed them full of pot-stickers and egg drop soup before bidding them a fond farewell.

For centenarians, these horses can really move!

 Lovely ladies in the sunshine.

On Thursday, we took the crew out to Cabrillo National Monument to see the tidepools. Jessica was instrumental in helping child wrangle - preventing poor anemones from being stomped by toddler toes.

Matt demonstrating some fine toddler wrangling skills.

That poor anemone is about to get poked.

Friday the rain rolled in, and we were all a bit tired. So, we stayed close to home. A trip to the park, some crafts in the kitchen, and an afternoon good bye to Aunt Jessica (with a quick stop at In-N-Out on the way to the airport).

Making sun catchers with a craft kit
Adelaide got for Christmas.

Jefferson couldn't be more delighted
with all these new people in his life.

Good bye Hiltons! Good bye Jessica! Next time you come we can promise sunshine, tacos, adorable kids... we'll even throw in more In-N-Out Burger trips. Just come again soon.

The kids were pretty sad to see their aunts and uncle go... but a New Year's Eve party with friends and a trip to Legoland before school started up again put them quickly back in good spirits. And, because taking Christmas decorations down on New Year's Day was pretty depressing, Melinda and the girls went to Target and picked up some new decorations the next day. Valentine's Day, you are our rebound holiday, but Eleanor may love you even more than Christmas because all the decorations are pink...

 Bounce your cares away.

 Adelaide's pretty much a pro
at this ride now.

The girls are already filling that little mail box
with love notes for each other and the family.

Okay 2017, we've got a heart banner, patchwork bird, and love-themed felt cacti on our mantle place (the girls talked Melinda into buying that... they didn't have to try hard... the cacti are "stuck on you," get it? get it? It's hilarious.). We've got new piano lessons for Adelaide, a health plan for Jefferson, kindergarten coming up for Eleanor, a pile of dinosaurs for Steven, a pile of text books for Melinda, and a 30 miler race coming up for Matt. There's lots going on, so let's make it a great year!
