Last spring, when we were walking through the rooms of the Puyang City Social Welfare Institute, we knew - we knew we would be coming back to China. Seeing rows and rows of cribs filled with incredible children... each one beautiful, perfect, incomplete, lonely, scared and full of potential, light and hope. Each child waiting for the day their family would come for them.
So, when the dust settled after returning home this summer, we made the call to CCAI. Put us back on the list - we want another child.
We feel pretty uncomfortable when strangers stop us on the street to tell us what wonderful, special people we are... and how lucky Steven is that we adopted him. We know that their hearts are in the right place. But, we also know the real truth. We are the lucky ones. Steven is incredible, amazing and awesome. We'd go to the ends of the earth for him (what parent wouldn't for their child?). So, why not China?
It's been quiet for a few months on the adoption end, as we waited for news of a match on our file. And, finally, the week before Christmas, we got the call. The agency had a file for little boy from Nanyang, Henan (the same provence Steven is from), would we like to take a look? Let us think about tha - YES!
Guang Chi is two weeks younger than Steven. He's an active, busy little boy who occasionally doubles as a hat model (apparently).
Yes, yes, yes! The feeling of finding your child, after months of waiting. There are few things to rival such joy. We sent our letter of intent to the CCCWA. But, because of the holiday, we had to wait until after Christmas to receive our pre-approval for the adoption (that was SO hard, let us tell you).
We finally heard back this week and started calling family to tell them Jefferson Guang Chi Jensen would be joining the family in 2016.
So, here we are again - buried in immigration paperwork and scrubbing the house shiny for social worker visits. But, so very, very happy. We hope to travel to China in June or July and bring our son home. It seems so terribly far away, but we know the days will pass quickly.
Guang Chi, we love you, and we can't wait to tell you in person.
