December to Remember

Have we gone on and on and on and on yet about how very WARM and PLEASANT it is in San Diego? It's the middle of the winter and we're enjoying temps in the '70s! While the rest of the country is freezing their mittens off, we spent what should be one of the coldest month of the year mostly out of doors.

The girls love this century old carousel at Seaport Village.

Wave watching in La Jolla.

Matt's sister Kristin and her husband James are currently living in LA while James finishes a Masters in accounting. We were so lucky to have them come visit us early in the month. The weather, as always, was lovely. So we were able to go to Old Town San Diego and even do some walking along the beach.

At our favorite Mexican restaurant… kids eat free!

Newlyweds, so cute.

Group shot!

Making ice cream cone Christmas Trees. This was
our substitution for gingerbread houses this year.
It was a little easier for the girls to participate.

Adelaide's masterpiece on top of a
chocolate hill. CHOMP!

A few more random pictures from this month before we get into Christmas week, which gets it's own post.

Melinda ordered Christmas wrapping paper from one of the neighborhood kids in Virginia, selling it for a school fundraiser. Well, the little entrepreneur never brought the paper over. So, we decided to make our own paper using left over moving paper - which we have in overabundance.

Melinda carved stamps out of old potatoes and the girls set to work!

Stampers hard at work.

 OOoooh, Ahhh….

Matt is really enjoying his new job. Our apartment is only two minutes away. So, the girls love how quickly he gets home, even on long work days he still seems to get home early when his commute is so short.

Yeehaw!

There is lots to love about San Diego - the weather, great job, close to family… but we still miss our home and friends in Virginia a lot. Eleanor is going with the flow, but Adelaide is especially struggling with the transition.  But, we're slowly making more friends and getting used to living in tighter quarters.

Adelaide has already made a friend in our complex. A 3-year old boy likes to frequent the playground. We loved their first conversation. It went something like this:

New Boy: I have Avengers cookie cutters.
Adelaide: What's a venger?
New Boy: Ummm… you can crash my cars.
Adelaide: We could have a tea party.
New Boy: Want to play shock? (He and his brother like to use the static charge from going down the slide to shock each other.)
Adelaide: No, that is not kind.

Adelaide's new friend has two brothers and Adelaide is clearly a pink and purple clad anomaly to him. And, for Adelaide's part, she can't figure out this "100%" boy. But, they do like to pretend the playground mulch is chocolate ice cream and scoop it into tall towers. So there is that.

She's also starting to make some new friends at school. They had a Christmas program that Adelaide was so excited about. She would hide in her room and practice the songs, and not let us listen, because it was a surprise. She did a great job on the day of the performance, remember all the words and singing loud and clear.
