Whew! A lot has happened in the last few days. Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Gale flew out for a visit, Hurricane Sandy made her presence known, and we all celebrated the end of the storm with a fun-filled trip to the bowling alley.
We've all been very excited for a visit from Melinda's folks. But, no one more so than Adelaide. She's been asking for them everyday for the last month. At last, Saturday evening, they arrived. Knowing that Hurricane Sandy was right on their heels, we tried to spend sometime outdoors on Sunday, enjoying the fall leaves before they were all knocked from the trees.

A family of Pumpkin Heads!
Fun at the park
Out for a stroll before the storm rolled in.
We also fit in one last visit to our neighbor's for their daughter's first birthday party before the storm was upon us. The first rain drops started to fall as we left their house.
Cupcake face!
Then it was time to hunker down for the storm. We feel very fortunate to be in an area that wasn't hit very hard. We followed the advice of our politicians and weatherman and stayed inside all day, even though the rain and wind didn't look too awful. In the evening, things picked up a bit. We sprung a small leak and the power went out for about four hours. All in all, not the worst storm we've weathered in this house. Actually, not even the worst storm we've had this year. Our thoughts and prayers are definitely with those north of us where the broader effects of Hurricane Sandy were felt.
What Storm? For Eleanor, it was just another day.
We all took turns keeping Adelaide occupied.
Many games of "Go Fish" were played.
Poor Adelaide was pretty concerned by all the rain. We thought it was because she's been cooped up inside. But, when Melinda switched off the weather news, Adelaide had a complete melt down that we wouldn't be safe unless we could hear the news. Time for a Mommy/Daughter heart to heart. Turns out, Adelaide had been worried because when the "rains came down," the "floods came up." Melinda explained that her Dad had built our house "upon the rock" and so we would be okay. Adelaide was so relieved.
This morning, while the weather was still dreary, there were no longer risks of high winds or flooding. So, we decided to get out of the house and shake off our cabin fever.
To the Bowling Alley!
(Adelaide is trying to share a french fry with Grandma)
When we weren't bowling, we were all
fighting over who got to hold Eleanor.
So glad to be out of the house.
Hard to tell if Adelaide's favorite part of bowling
was the actual bowling, or the french fries.
Looks like our area should be all dried out for Halloween tomorrow. We're excited for Eleanor's first Halloween, and Adelaide's first trick or treating adventure.
Eleanor is getting into the spirit of things,
doesn't she look boo-tiful?

What a great way to pass the time inside--with Grandma and Grandpa! I didn't know they were visiting! Lucky Adelaide and Eleanor! Glad you are all safe and the storm didn't hit you too hard. xoxo
ReplyDeleteIs it okay that the most terrifying part of the storm for me was the prospect of staying inside with a toddler without electricity, i.e. Sesame Street, string cheese, or baths? Glad Melinda's parents made it safely there and that you all made it safely through!
