Off To School

We love, love, LOVE the daycare that Adelaide and Eleanor attend. The woman who runs it is sweet, organized, caring and fanatically clean - everything you could want in a child care provider.

Our wonderful neighbor and daycare provider, Dilek.
The girls can't wait for the picture taking to be over, so they can go play.

But, Adelaide is getting older, and she's outgrown the in-home care center. Her conversation skills have moved from basic sentences to down right sassy. She knows her colors, shapes, ABCs, and basic counting - all the good stuff. Our precocious and curious two year old is ready for the next step.

So today was Adelaide's first day of school! (We're using the term "school" loosely here.) After a brief stint on the wait list, Adelaide was able to enroll in a fabulous montessori school just two miles from our home. Adelaide is in the pre-Montessori two year old class and next year she'll be in the official Montessori program. She's gone from being the oldest child at Dilek's house to the youngest in her school class. Still the tallest though!

She was so excited this morning that she changed her
shoes three times and insisted on wearing her favorite hat.

Here we go!

She even has her very own hook - a source of great pride and delight.

Adelaide has been wild with excitement for a couple weeks at the idea of having teachers and going to a class with kids her own age. She was bouncing off the walls this morning. We mean this very literally. There was running, jumping, yelling, giggling, smashing into things and bouncing. She is two, after all.

However, despite being lively and talkative at home, she's pretty shy in public. There was some trepidation when she finally got to meet her classmates, and tears when Mom and Dad left. But, when we picked her up she told us, "I had-da good time!" In fact, the only complaint she had was missing Eleanor. She gave Eleanor some extra kisses and hugs when they were reunited in the afternoon.

Adelaide is looking forward to more school tomorrow because they will be making finger prints. We're clearing space on our fridge already.

  3. I love her little pink Florida Gators hat. She wears it all the time to "be like daddy" because of all my Florida MBA gear. Makes me so proud! Go Gators!

  5. So cute!! It's funny, I was just reading up on montessori schools the other day. The one in our area is hiring, and I'm considering sending in my resume.
