It’s hard to believe it’s almost December! Maybe that’s because the weather has been so warm lately. This weekend, we enjoyed temperatures in the 70s while touring DC with Justin and Christopher.
Perfect day to see the sights...
and run around on the National Mall.
Justin and Christopher were so much fun to have around! We think they went above and beyond as houseguests when they moved a queen bed from our third floor to the basement. Thanks guys!
We were also excited to put our Christmas decorations up this weekend. Say what you want about encroaching on Thanksgiving – but one month just doesn’t seem like a long enough time to celebrate Christmas.
Matt and Adelaide were up early on Black Friday to hit an important sale. They rushed out to join the (small) crowd at Home Depot. The competition was (not so) fierce, but they were able to score a light timer for our Christmas lights. Melinda was thrilled by their success, as the thought of crawling under the Christmas tree to plug it in gets less and less exciting with each new inch her tummy expands.
Adelaide opted to wear her rain boots
and pajamas for the adventure.
Adelaide was very excited to help with the tree. She did a great job passing ornaments to everyone, and only absconded with a few. Because she is so good at putting away her toys – a few hours after the tree went up, she took down every ornament she could reach and put them back in the box. Adelaide was a little embarrassed/upset when Mom explained the ornaments were actually going to stay on the tree. But, after being assured we really, really appreciated her “clean up,” she enjoyed re-decorating the tree.
Adelaide really likes the tree, but her favorite Christmas addition so far is the Fisher-Price nativity we picked up at last year’s post-holiday sales. She spends so much time playing with it, that it now just lives under the tree, instead of going back on the shelf like most of her toys when she’s finished.
The nativity is the first toy to come out in the morning.
She runs to check to make sure it's still there after
coming back inside from walks.
The nativity has been fun for Matt and Melinda too. It’s added to our abundant collection of amusing parent one-liners that we never imagined we’d say. Some of our favorites:
“Sweetheart, Jesus isn’t a telephone.”
“That’s not Elmo, it’s Jesus!”
“Did you just throw the sheep in the tree?”
We hope you are all having as much fun putting your decorations up!
To be fair to Adelaide. I asked her to put the sheep UNDER the tree. She looked confused and tossed the sheep INTO the tree. Really, that kind of mistake could happen to anyone!
ReplyDeleteabsconded, nice word :)
ReplyDeletethat child is growing like a weed. wow. love seeing the updates. wish that we could actually see your house tho!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's possible to have as much fun decorating as you guys are having! There's a bit more angst at our house as mean old Mommy won't let Maia chew on any of our ornaments. Maybe next Christmas will be a little easier?
