DC United

Since Adelaide’s first birthday, we’ve started introducing her to the world of sports. It’s our hope that, when she’s a tad bit older, she’ll channel her boundless energy into one or more of these outlets. Currently, she uses her never-ending supply of pep to climb up bookshelves, drag around heavy laptop bags, and spin in circles until she’s so dizzy she crashes in a giggling heap.

Adelaide is a great little sports fan. She loved the bull-riding event we attended in Oregon (though to be fair, she liked dancing to the music more than watching the cowboys). And, she looks great in her football gear.

Adelaide is all Bolted Up!

This Wednesday, we braved a sprinkling rain drizzle to take Adelaide to her first soccer match: DC United vs. Chivas. She was enthralled, and never took her eyes off the ball.  Whenever the soccer ball sailed into the air, and looked like it might be heading into our direction, she’d clap excitedly.

Adelaide was rooting for the ball.

We made it all the way until halftime before Adelaide had a melt down. It was not the lateness of the hour, the loud fans, or even the wet weather that pushed her over the edge. She was distraught over not being able to play with the ball.

She had finally had enough of the players being ball-hogs and tried to rush the field to take her own turn. So, we called it a night –Adelaide sobbing, “Bawl! Bawl!” over her Dad’s shoulder as we hauled her out of the bleachers.

Lesson learned - The next event we go to, we’ll definitely bring Adelaide her own ball!
